About the Founder

Having faced illness alongside the family’s old dog, the founder vowed to build a temple just for pets.

Pets Are Family, So He Built Them a Temple

Why it began

Our founder has always treated pets as family. When the family's old dog suddenly fell seriously ill, he made a vow: to build a temple that would look after more pets, and give pet parents somewhere to find peace in their hardest moments.

/ The Founder’s Background

The founder worked at two international advertising agencies, Leo Burnett and Ogilvy, where he led or took part in more than 300 advertising and branding projects for over 70 brands in Taiwan and abroad, including McDonald's, Toyota, Heineken and L'Oréal.

He went on to start his own brands: he founded the plant-science skincare brand Z研植物科學保養 and, with partners, the men's health brands 赤晶對策 and 武倍對策, stepping away after their annual revenue passed NT$100 million.

He also founded BBW (品牌高勝率取捨學), a program that coaches companies on building brands and on making precise trade-offs and the right decisions along the way. Over eight years it has coached more than 200 companies and over 1,000 students.

A Founder, Not an Owner

In building Cho Yuu Temple, he again started from the pets' point of view: no incense burning, no firecrackers, and a moon-block machine with a button a pet can press with a paw.

He calls himself the person who started Cho Yuu Temple, not its owner. Starting it, he says, means inviting more people to take part, so the temple can be passed down and stay with generation after generation of pet families. He also hopes more temples in Taiwan will open their doors to pets.

Our Journey So Far

From a single vow, to a temple in Dadaocheng, to a temple in Yilan built to last a hundred years.

An old dog's illness, and a vow

When the family's old dog fell seriously ill, the founder vowed to build a temple that cares for pets.

Inviting Baosheng Dadi

Baosheng Dadi's incense lineage was brought from Ciji Temple in Xuejia, Tainan.

Opening in Dadaocheng

The temple opened on Guide Street in Dadaocheng, Taipei, as Taiwan’s first temple for pets.

The Yilan temple plan

Next comes a temple in Yilan, built to last a hundred years and care for even more pets.

Why Baosheng Dadi

A god of medicine who was a physician in life

Legend has it that Baosheng Dadi was born Wu Tao, a renowned physician of the Northern Song dynasty who spent his life healing people.

It is also said that he once removed something stuck in a tiger's throat. The tiger followed him from then on and became the Tiger Lord, which is why, at Cho Yuu Temple, the Black Tiger Lord sits beneath Baosheng Dadi's altar.

Our Baosheng Dadi holds a cat in his left arm and rests his right hand on a dog. Carved at his feet are a fish, a snake, a turtle, a rabbit, a bird and a little mouse.

A Temple Made with Pets in Mind

Pets dislike smoke and noise, and parents worry about things going wrong on an outing. We've thought these worries through for you.

No incense or joss paper indoors

The temple lights incense on your behalf. When you and your pet arrive, simply put your palms together and make your wish.

No firecrackers, gongs or drums

A quiet temple where even nervous pets can settle in.

Blessings alongside medical care

If your pet is unwell, please see a vet first.

Every kind of animal is welcome

Beyond cats and dogs, rabbit, bird, squirrel and reptile parents are just as welcome to bring their pets.

The Yilan Hundred-Year Temple

Your name and your pet's, built into the new temple

Cho Yuu Temple plans to build a temple in Yilan that will stand for a hundred years and care for many more pets.

You can donate a roof tile now: your name and your pet’s name will be written on it, and when the new temple is built, the tile will become part of its roof. Pets who have passed away can have their names on a tile too.
